Course Description:
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors. (Offered spring semester.) (Credit/ No Credit Available)
Reflective Narrative:
This was a difficult class. Through the course of it I had to make a lot of changes to my original plan that I developed in Pre-Capstone. The upside of this is all the practice I got with essential computer software, such as Word and Powerpoint, helping me to fulfill MLO 4. As a continuation of that class, we slowly and procedurally went through all the processes of building a complete Capstone presentation to give at the end of the semester. In this class, I learned how to create a real research paper, build cohesive powerpoints in both Japanese and English, construct and learn a 20 minute long script in Japanese, and put together this final portfolio. The whole is more than the sum of these parts though. Through this course, I worked harder than I have in years. When I started, my Japanese was not at a good enough level to do the required coursework. However, through constant effort and many 12 hour days, I was able to complete this project and present it. I feel like I learned a lot during this semester, and while I doubt I'll ever want to do it again, I'm glad I had to do it.
