Course Description:
This course further develops advanced Japanese proficiency through an understanding of Japanese history as a dynamic, interrelated system and employs a variety of processes to identify, analyze and evaluate cultural themes, values and ideas. Students will demonstrate ability to accurately comprehend ideas across a range of historical content. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/No Credit Available)
Reflective Narrative:
Although ostensibly a culture course, this course helped me fulfill MLO 1 because it was much more devoted to language study than culture study. Each session we would go over a medium length passage from our book and discuss it in Japanese. More than any other course I have taken at CSUMB, Japanese 302 gave me the freedom to practice my Japanese speaking skills, making comments and having discussions in a group setting. I found this course to be mentally stimulating and very educational, however, it was also very difficult, and I had quite a bit of trouble keeping up. I had taken a language course of the same difficulty a year prior, and found myself hopelessly confused. This time around, success was actually possible for me, and this realization drove me forward. Passing this class afirmed the fact that my Japanese skills were actually improving, and this drove me forward to try to do even better the next year.
